Sliding Prices Raise Doubts Over China's Property Policies-RFA
2014-10-28 Tue 11:16
As China's home prices start to slide from historic highs, the country's leaders have remained largely silent about the government's goals.

Since taking power last year, President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have said little about their objectives for the property sector, despite policy shifts that have left buyers confused and developers on edge.

After more than a decade of soaring growth, housing prices have either slowed or started to fall, sparking fears that the property bubble may have already burst.

In July, 64 of China's 70 major cities registered price drops for new homes from June, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported, marking the third straight month of declines.

Average prices dipped 0.9 percent from the previous month, Reuters reported, while only two cities showed slight gains.

On a year-to-year basis, July's average prices still rose 2.5 percent, but that was a shadow of the 9.9-percent growth from a year earlier at the start of 2014.

Mt. Ontake risks reported in 1979-Japan News
2014-10-28 Tue 11:01
In a report issued after Mt. Ontake’s first eruption in 1979, experts advised the implementation of safety measures for climbers, such as the construction of shelters, due to the risk of extensive damage if a disaster were to occur during the tourist season.

Unfortunately, their recommendations have never been put in practice.

A volcanic eruption occurred in October 1979 for the first time in recorded history southwest of Kengamine, the mountain’s highest point. Of the 30 climbers on Mt. Ontake at the time, one suffered a mild head injury due to falling volcanic ash.

The climbing season had just ended so there were fewer climbers on the mountain when it erupted.

The National Research Center for Disaster Prevention (currently the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention) conducted an investigation afterward and filed the report.

Asteroid Explorer "Hayabusa-2"-JAXA
2014-10-28 Tue 09:39
Asteroid explorer "Hayabusa" arrived at the small asteroid "Itokawa" whose size is only about 500m and showed us the mysterious world. Hayabusa made it possible for us to see exact nature of a very small asteroid approaching to the earth.

JAXA is now considering a mission named "Hayabusa-2".

This is a mission to retrieve samples of surface from an asteroid to the earth.

This is a similar mission to Hayabusa's one, However, target asteroid is different from Hayabusa's.

The Asteroid Itokawa explored by Hayabusa is rock-rich S-type one. Hayabusa-2 will visit a C-type asteroid. C-type asteroids are also rock quality but it is thought that their rocks contain much more organic matters and water.

Hayabusa-2 will challenge very interesting objectives: what are original organic matters and water existed in the solar system?, how are they related to life and ocean water?

Also, Hayabusa-2 will challenge new technologies as well as improving the technologies of Hayabusa.
