At a news conference on Thursday, SDF Chief of the Joint Staff Shigeru Iwasaki referred to an incident on Wednesday in which a Chinese jet flew within 30 to 45 meters of 2 SDF planes on reconnaissance missions over the East China Sea.

The incident followed a similar one on May 24th.
