Born in 1879, Taki Rentaro was one of the best-known composers of Japan. He graduated from the Tokyo Music School in 1901. In the same year, Rentaro went to the Leipzig Conservatory, Germany. He fell seriously ill with tuberculosis of the lungs there while studying music further, and so came back to Japan. He soon died at the age of 23. One of his famous pieces is Koujo no Tsuki(Moon Over the Castle Ruins). The song was included in the songbook for junior high school students.
