New Orleans residents flee storm

The mayor of New Orleans has issued an evacuation order for the entire city, ahead of Hurricane Gustav's expected landfall.
Ray Nagin said residents of the city's West Bank should begin moving out at 0800 (1300 GMT) on Sunday.
He called it "the storm of the century".

Sakurai jinja is located in Katakura of Minami-ku Sakai-shi,. Osaka.
Sakurai jinja is a storied old shrine whose description was visible in the collection of statutes, " Engishiki ," in the Heian period.
The shrine was burned by Nobunaga Oda's army in 1577 when they attacked Negoro of Kisyu.
It remained only a main shrine and a worship hall.
The shrine has a worship hall divided into two parts(Warihaiden) by the passage called Medou.
Warihaiden is a rare shrine construction in Japan..
It was designated as the national treasure in 1953.
.On the first Sunday of October, Ko-odori dance festeval is held at the shrine.
The Ko-odori danc festeval is said to have originated rain-making prayer dance.
17 dancers wearing long-nosed Tengu goblin’s masks perform the dance at the site of the Shrine.

The batter of the Taiyaki consists of flour, sugar and bicarbonate of soda.
The batter is poured into a fish-shaped mold.

Kidnapped Japanese in Afghanistan dead

Japan's Foreign Ministry confirmed Wednesday a body found in Afghanistan was that of a Japanese aid worker.
"We were doing our best to secure his safe release. But to our great regret, we confirmed the dead body was that of Kazuya Ito," Senior Vice Foreign Minister Ichita Yamamoto said.
Mr Ito, an engineer, was kidnapped on Tuesday while inspecting an irrigation project.

Curry rice is one of the most popular dishes as well as Ramen in Japan.
Curry rice is the Japanese dish which curry sauce is poured over boiled rice.
. Curry was introduced to Japan as British food at first during the Meiji era.
Therefore it has been treated as European food for a long time in Japan but in fact, it is the dish improved for Japanese.
Curry was adopted by the Japanese Imperial navy based in Yokosuka in the form of curry rice and had spread to naval bases in Kure,Maizuru and Sasebo.
It became popular instantly among the sailors.
Some vegetables and meats are used to make Japanese curry.
The vegetables are usually onions, carrots, and potatoes ,and the meats are pork, beef and chicken.
The Japanese curry is usually sweeter and milder than the Indian curry.
Japanese curry rice is served with vegetables pickled such as Fukujinzuke or Rakkyo.
Fukujinzuke is a kind of pickles in Japanese cuisine, commonly used as a relish for Japanese curry rice.
It consists of vegetables including daikon, eggplant, lotus root and cucumber ,pickled in a base that is flavored with soy sauce.

In the Muromachi Period,from approximately 1336 to 1573., Sakai was one of richest cities in Japan because it developed as a trading port with Ming Dynasty China.
And in the Sengoku Period , Sakai rushed into its golden days. as a trading port with China .and some European countries.
In those days , Sakai was an autonomous city run by a group of wealthy merchants known as the kaigoshu .
It was surrounded by a circular moat.
.The circular moat was a barrier for self-defense.
Sakai came to be known by Europeans after St .Francis Xavier visited Sakai in 1550. and documented its prosperity.
Then, the missionaries of the Society of Jesus visited Sakai one after another, and gave the information on Sakai towards their native country.
Luis Frois, a Portuguese missionary of the Society of Jesus, visited Sakai in 1564.
He described Sakai as "Venice of the East" in his book ."Japanese history."

The Maneki Neko ,or lucky cat, is a common Japanese sculpture,
It is usually made of ceramic and so is often used as a piggy bank.
The Maneki Neko is believed to bring good luck to the owner.
The lucky cat beckoning with an upright paw is often displayed at the entrance in shops to attract customers.
People can see the Maneki Neko of different types. a raised right paw or left paw.
It is believed that a raised right paw attracts money, while a raised left paw attracts customers.

Kumano Kodo is the old pilgrimage road that lead to Kumano Sanzan.
People honored Kumano as a sacred place where the gods have lived since ancient times.
The Kumano district is located in the southern part of Ki Peninsula.
The Ki Peninsula is a mountainous area, and so people traversed rugged paths through wild nature to visit Kumano, only entrusting their future happiness to the gods.
There were five following routes in the Kumano Kodo.

Nakahechi(Tanabe- Kumano Sanzan,)

Sakai is a city located in Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
The current city was legally founded on April 1.
Sakai is the second most populous city in Osaka, with 835,516 residents as of 2008-07-01.
It became a designated city in April 2006 and was divided into seven districts.
The history of Sakai is very old.
It can date back to Burial Mound age.
Sakai is known for its keyhole-shaped burial mounds( kofun) which date from the 5th century.
There are many old burial mounds, called Mozu old burial mound group, in the northern part of Sakai.
The largest of these, Daisen Kofun, is believed to be the grave of the Emperor Nintoku and is the largest grave in the world by volume.

Oden is a Japanese winter dish, but recently is eaten even in the summer.
It consists of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, konnyaku, potato, tofu, atsuage , suji (beef tendons )and chikuwa in a light, soy-flavoured dashi broth.
Atsuage is a thick block of deep-dried tofu ,and chikuwa is a tubular fish cake.
It is often eaten ,topping with Karashi, or Japanesemustard.
Japanese oden seems to be popular in China.
It is said that the odn is sold in a convenience stor there..

Takoyaki is a very popular Japanese dumpling, especially in Osaka.
It’s made of batter of the wheat flour,diced octopus, tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, konnyaku, and green onion, topped with okonomiyaki sauce,aonori, mayonnaise, and katsuobushi.
It is baked in a sphere of a diameter of 3cm - 5cm,used with a takoyaki pan.
A takoyaki pan is a type of frying pan, typically made of cast iron.
Takoyaki is usually considered to be fast food(generally eaten as a snack food.) and mostly sold on the streets
People eat takoyaki with a toothpick..

More than 150 dead in Madrid plane crash

Many people have died after a passenger plane swerved off the runway at Madrid's Barajas airport.
The Spanair flight had taken off for the Canary Islands with 172 people on board.
Spain's development minister told that 153 people had been killed.
There were 19 survivors, including two infants.
They were being treated at a hospital.
