Tanabata is a Japanese star festival.
It was a star festival,Qi Xi ,in China originally and got across to Japan at the Nara period.
Since then, people have celebrated the festival on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.
Tanabata celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair)
They are lovers but the Milky Way separates these lovers.
They are allowed to meet only once a year on the Tanabata.
Since the stars come out at night, the celebration is held at night.
In Japan, people generally celebrate this day by writing wishes on tanzaku, small pieces of paper, and hanging them on bamboo.
