Okonomiyaki is a Japanese teppan-yaki dish consisting of a pan-fried batter cake and various ingredients, such as meat, shellfishes, and vegetables , etc.
Okonomiyaki is mainly associated with Kansai or Hiroshima areas,
Kansai-style okonomiyaki is a pan-fried batter cake, grated yam(yamaimo), dashi (dashi is a broth made by boiling kombu or kezurikatsuo), eggs and shredded cabbage, and moreover contains green onion, meat, octopus, squid, shrimp, vegetables, kimchi(Kimchi is a traditional Korean pickles.), and mochi(Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice.), etc.
This dish is said to have originated in Osaka.
Osaka is the largest city in the Kansai region.
By the way, Okonomi means "what you like" and Yaki means "cooked" inJapanese.
By such a reason, most okonomiyaki restaurants are set up as grill-it-yourself establishments.
The customer mixes a bowl of raw ingredients provided from the server. and grills at tables fitted with hotplates.
The batter and other ingredients are fried on both sides on a hot plate, using a metal spatula.

Namba

Namba is located in Chuo and Naniwa wards ,Osaka,Japan.
Namba is known as the city's main south-central railway terminus of JR, Kintetsu, and Nankai.
Three lines of the Osaka Municipal Subway have stations there.
Namba is an entertainment district, and hosts many bars, restaurants, nightclubs, arcades, and pachinko parlors.
The area is a shopping zone with the Takashimaya department store and the underground Namba City shopping mall.
Namba Parks, located in the Namba district, is an office and shopping mall complex building.

It consists of a high office building called Parks Tower and a 120-tenant shopping mall.
The feature of Namba Parks is having a large rooftop garden.
Various kinds of restaurants are located on the 6th floor, and shops are located on the 2nd to 5th floors.
A rooftop park crosses multiple blocks while gradually ascending eight levels.
As the sloping park connects to the street, passers-by can easily enter its groves of trees, clusters of rocks, cliffs, lawn, streams, waterfalls, ponds and outdoor terraces.
The compound building where Marui and Toho Cinemas moved in, in front of the Namba station,opened on September 22, 2006.
The biggest cinema-complex theater in Osaka City was established also at the Namba Parks April, 2007.
The number of movie theaters recently increased at a stretch in the Namba district .

Tents killed a man

A man was killed and nine others injured as four large tents were knocked down by strong winds at a festival venue in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture.
According to the Fukui Local Meteorological Observatory, atmospheric conditions in the area became unstable as warm, humid air came up against a weather front above the Sea of Japan.

Shinsaibashisuji Shotengai(2)

In a picture published in 1798 (Kansei 10), variety of shoppers and merchants were described along with the Kimono store Matsuya (currently Daimaru).
The reason in which Shinsaibashisuji became prosperous in the Edo period, the street was located between Shinmachi and Dotonbori.
. Shinmachi was a red light district and Dotonbori was a theater district in that time.
The patron accompanied by Shinmachi's geisha girls passed along Shinsaibashisuji and carried out to the theater of Dotonbori.

As the popularity of Shinmachi to the north and the Dotonbori theatre district to the south , the popularity of Shinsaibashisuji established as Osaka's main shopping district.
There was a tremendous variety of stores: kimono stores, cotton stores, furniture stores, and hardware stores.

China ignores bus bombs claim

The Turkestan Islamic Party said that it had blown up buses in Shanghai and Yunnan.
It also said that it was planning attacks on the Olympic Games.
But China denies the explosions were acts of terrorism.

What really happened on Qantas flight?

The Qantas airliner was on a scheduled flight to Melbourne from Hong Kong.
Passengers suddenly heard a loud bang at about an hour after taking off.
A hole up to three metres across had appeared in the forward cargo hold.
Passengers grabbed their oxygen masks and the pilots put the plane into an emergency descent.
The plane is now on the ground at Manila in the Philippines after the pilots brought it safely down.
Safety engineers have begun examining the plane to establish the cause.
Qantas has denied corrosion caused a hole in the body of the plane.

Shinsaibashisuji Shotengai(1)

Shinsaibashisuji Shotengai is an arcade shopping center ,centering on Shinsaibashi- bridge, in Chuo-ku, Osaka-shi, Japan and the city's main shopping area.
During the Edo period , there were nearly 200 bridges called Machi-bashi in Naniwa(Osaka).
Machi-bashi were built and managed by the local merchants.
The Shinsaibashi- bridge, that spanned the Nagahori-gawa canal, was one of them.
Shinsai Okada, a merchants, built the bridge in 1622 (Genna 8).
That is why the bridge is called Shinsai-bashi .
The original wooden bridge was 35 meter long and 4 meter wide.
. According to an old book, there were various kinds of stores dealing with lacquer-ware, books, antique, instruments, paperhangers, and ornaments at Shinsaibashisuji .
As the residents of Naniwa in the Edo period., Shinsaibashisuji was already a place for shopping .

Tenjin Festival in Osaka

Tenmangu or Tenjin-sha is a shinto shrine to worship Sugawara no Michizane as Tenjin.
The Osaka Temmangu was founded in AD 949 in Osaka.
The Tenjin Festival is held here annually.
A main festival is held on July 25.
The dedication fireworks to the shrine are set off.
Many ships decorated with the lights go back and forth in Okawa (old Yodogawa).
Tenjin Festival is also called the festival of fire and water by splendid figures, such as a bonfire, a paper lantern light, fireworks which are reflected in Okawa.

No deaths at strong quake

A clean-up operation is under way in northern Japan, after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck early on Thursday.
Most services have been restored.
More than 100 people suffered injuries, but no deaths have yet been reported.
Experts said the depth of the quake had prevented more serious casualties.

Powerful earthquake hits wide areas of northern and eastern Japan

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 rocked wide areas of northern and eastern Japan at 12:26 a.m. Thursday..
The earthquake was centred 120km underground in the Iwate prefecture near Morioka, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.
According to the National Police Agency, as of 1 p.m., 107 people suffered injuries, including 16 with broken bones and other serious wounds.
Fifty-two of the injured were in Aomori Prefecture, 39 in Iwate Prefecture, 11 in Miyagi Prefecture, two in Akita Prefecture, and one each in Chiba Prefecture, Yamagata Prefecture and Hokkaido.

Mozu Hachimangu

Mozu Hachimangu is an old shrine in Mozu –Akahata , Kita-ku ,Sakai-shi, Osaka.
In the precincts of the shrine, a huge camphor tree aged about 800 grows thick.
It was specified as the Natural monument by the Osaka Prefectural government.
Mozu Hachimangu was said to be founded in Emperor Kimmei's reign(532-571).
It is said in the Edo period that newly appointed Osaka-Jodai, who managed the Osaka Castle for Tokugawa Shogun, had worshipped at this shrine .
Reisai of this shrine(known as Tsukimisai, the Moon Festival) is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (usually around mid- or late-September in the Gregorian calendar). .

The shrine enshrined Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu, Emperor Chuai ,Sumiyoshi-no-Okami and kasuga-no-Okami.

Mozu Kofun Group

112 Kofun which were an outstanding scale nationwide were constructed between late 4th century and late 7th century in Mozu of Sakai.
These Kofun belong to a large grouping of burial mounds known as the Mozu Kofun Group,
Several small kofun(Bai-chou) are usually located around the large-sized one.
In Bai-chou, the relative(or the subject) of the head buried at the main large-sized Kofun are considered to be buried.
For example, the Daisen Kofun is surrounded by 12 small Kofun held to belong to Emperor Nintoku's attendants.
The Mozu Kofun Grou are located in the Sakai northwest part and built on the plateau near the ancient coastline.

Chinese bus blasts

Two separate explosions on buses in the Chinese city of Kunming have left at least three people dead and 14 hurt.
The blasts happened within hours of each other during the morning rush hour in Yunnan's state capital.

The Angara rocket is a planned space-launch vehicle which is designed to place heavy payloads into orbit by Russia .
The solid-fueled second stage of KSLV-I will be built by South Korea.

Morning glories attract a crowd at Asagao-ichi .
Theasagao-ichi ,Morning Glory Fair,was held in the Iriya district of Taito Ward, Tokyo, on Friday.
About 100,000 potted morning glories are on sale at 70 stalls set up in and around Shingenji temple, which enshrines Kishimojin.
This fair is held at the temple ground of Iriya Kishimojin and the street facing the temple gate.
Traders from Edogawa and Katsushika wards and Saitama prefecture all gather at the site .

Daisen Kofun

Daisen-Kofun is the biggest tomb in Japan in Sakai-shi, Osaka.
It is considered to be Emperor Nintoku’s tomb.
Emperor Nintoku was the 16th emperor of Japan.
But there is a paucity of information about him.
According to Nihonshoki, Nintoku who was the fourth son of Emperor Ōjin ruled from 313 till 399.
However, Nintoku is considered to have ruled the country during the late-4th century and early-5th century, modern research suggests.
The kofun have taken various shapes.
The most common type of kofun is a zempō-kōen-fun, which has a shape of a keyhole.
Daisen-Kofun belongs to this type .
Daisen Kofun is part of a large grouping of burial mounds known as the Mozu Kofun Group.

Troop build-up at the temple

Cambodia and Thailand moved more troops into an ancient border temple.
About 1,200 troops are now stationed near Preah Vihear temple.
The two sides have agreed to hold talks on the issue early next week.
The International Court of Justice awarded Preah Vihear to Cambodia in 1962, forcing Thai troops who had occupied the area to withdraw.
But areas around it remain the subject of rival territorial claims.
