Angry crowds have attacked government buildings in south-west China.
They were protesting at the death of a teenage girl.
Several thousand people took part in the riots.
They set fire to police stations and cars in Wengan county in the province of Guizhou.
Local residents were angered after a police inquiry concluded that the girl, found dead in a river earlier in June, had committed suicide.
Her family accused the son of a local official of raping and killing her.

South Korean police have used water cannon to disperse thousands of protesters against the resumption of US beef imports.
The protests took place as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisted in Seoul that US beef was safe to eat.
South Korea suspended US beef imports in 2003 after a case of mad cow disease.

It was held for a symbol of its commitment to talks on ending its nuclear programs.

Only Four buildings collapsed in the June 14 earthquake, whereas 3,175 buildings collapsed in the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Earthquake in 2004.

Temporary homes being built for quake homeless

Builders began construction of temporary housing in Kurihara, Miyagi Prefecture, for people left homeless by the strong Iwate-Miyagi Inland Earthquake.
Thirty five households hope to move into the temporary homes.
About 200 people are still staying in evacuation shelters in the city.

Dice-size crumbs of bright material have vanished from inside a trench where they were photographed by Phoenix, NASA said.
Scientists convinced that the material was frozen water that vaporized after digging exposed it.
"It must be ice," said Phoenix Principal Investigator Peter Smith of the University of Arizona, Tucson. "These little clumps completely disappearing over the course of a few days, that is perfect evidence that it's ice. There had been some question whether the bright material was salt.

Philippines ferry capsized by typhoon

More than 800 people on board a ferry has capsized in the central Philippines by Typhoon Fengshen.
The ferry reached Sibuyan at about 0700 a.m. local time (2300 GMT Friday) Saturday after setting off from Manila Friday night.
Survivors from the sunken Filipino ferry said on Sunday that the captain of the ship ordered the abandoning of the ship at noon Saturday in the sea off the island of Sibuyan.
There are only four known survivors.

Japan, China strike deal on gas fields

Japan and China on Wednesday announced the specifics of an agreement to jointly develop gas fields in the East China Sea.
Japanese private sector firms will take part in China's project to develop the Chunxiao gas field.
A joint development zone will be established in waters south of the Longjing gas field, with actual exploitation beginning at a site agreed to by the two nations.
The two gas fields are known in Japanese as Shirakaba and Asunaro, respectively.
China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said that the agreement "did not harm the respective legal stance of both sides"

A Japanese destroyer, Sazanami , will visit China next week in the first time since World War II, as part of a military exchange aimed at improving ties, the defense minister said Tuesday.
The Sazanami was to leave port in Japan on Thursday and stay in Zhanjiang from June 24 to June 28.
A Chinese guided missile destroyer, Shenzhen, made a port call in Tokyo in November last year .
It was the first visit by a Chinese military vessel to Japan since the war.

Shuttle crew see object adrift from the craft

Astronauts on board the shuttle Discovery have reported seeing an object drifting away from the craft.
Shuttle crew said the object was 30-45cm long.
Nasa engineers are trying to identify it from pictures taken by astronauts.
It was not unusual for objects to become dislodged from the shuttle or its payload bay, a Nasa official said.
However, debris preliminarily identified as a thermal clip from the shuttle's brake system later.
Problem will not affect Saturday's planned landing, NASA says.
