The Emperor welcomed Chinese President Hu Jintao at a banquet of the Imperial Palace on Wednesday.
Following the welcome ceremony, the Emperor and Hu discussed last week's death of Ueno Zoo's giant panda, Ling Ling. Hu was quoted "I am sorry to hear the news that Ling Ling died. I've decided to lease a panda couple to Japan so that the Japanese people can enjoy viewing the animal. I hope Japanese young people, especially children, will be able to see the pandas."
The Emperor said children would be delighted to see the pandas, according to the Imperial Household Agency.

The Chinese President Hu Jintao has held talks with the Japanese PM, Yasuo Fukuda Wednesday, .
The two leaders agreed they would hold annual summits to strengthen ties between the two countries.
A joint statement issued after meeting that the two nations agreed that Japan and China both share larger responsibilities for the world's peace and development in the 21st century.
